At Informed Financial Planning, we have always been very proud of our Hull roots and giving back to the local community is so important to us. As the company accountant, my job is not only to look after the finances of the company but to ensure we continue to achieve a healthy Triple Bottom Line – People, Planet and Profit.

People are our number one priority – clients, staff and the local community too. We now employ over thirty staff from the local area, three of which are apprentices and we are proud to be able to help this younger generation into the world of work. We put a lot of time and effort into ensuring our staff are happy at Informed Financial Planning and feel fully supported in their career development. After winning Professional Adviser’s ‘Best IFA to Work For’ three years in a row, we must be doing something right! As Richard Branson said ‘If you look after your staff, they’ll look after your customers’ and our client care is at the forefront of our thoughts always. This goes hand in hand with supporting the local community. A large proportion of our client base are from Hull and the surrounding areas, with a number being local business owners also. By us looking after their wealth and arranging various protection we can do our bit to help keep the local economy and employment thriving.

As for the planet thankfully, unlike the manufacturing industry, our impact on the environment isn’t too damaging and our brain power doesn’t appear to produce too many nasty toxic gases. Even so there are steps we have been able to take, for example when we moved into our new offices it was a no-brainer to ensure we had recycling bins for all waste (and woe-betide any staff member who dares to use the wrong one!). We are also working towards becoming a paperless office so don’t be surprised if at your next meeting with us we come equipped with an iPad rather than a folder full of papers.

Of course, all of this also helps with us, hopefully, making a profit for ourselves so how much further can we take our Corporate Social Responsibility?

Donations & Charity work

Over the last year we have been proud to sponsor various events such as sending a promising young local gymnast to an international competition, supporting the creation of a new local boxing club and sponsoring a talented rugby player in a local team. You may have also read about fourteen of our staff taking part in the Race For Life this summer raising funds for Cancer Research and following it with a money raising BBQ and bake sale! Our MD, Kevin Ferriby, has also set a great example by taking part in the ‘Ride to Wembley’ two years running, spending months training for the gruelling trek and contributing towards raising £58,000 for Rugby League Cares.

I personally also volunteer at the charity Emmaus (Hull & East Riding) which Informed Financial Planning fully supports by allowing me a day out of the office at least once a month to do so. Emmaus is a fantastic charity that supports formerly homeless people by giving them accommodation, training, and work to help them back on to their feet. At Informed Financial Planning we are used to dealing with people who are in a more stable financial position but we realise that not everyone is so fortunate, and their lives may take a different path for a multitude of reasons.
