    Why Informed Financial Planning?

    FAQs

    • Is life insurance treated as a benefit in kind?

No – Group Life Insurance (Death in Service cover) offered by your employer is usually permitted as a business expense for an employer. Employees usually don’t have to pay any tax on the insurance premiums either. This is because the Group Life cover is HMRC-approved and isn’t considered a P11D benefit.

    • Does life insurance protection cover critical illness too?

A stand-alone life insurance plan will not pay out in the event of a critical illness. However, it is possible to take out a life and critical illness protection plan which we pay out a lump sum on death or critical illness. The lump sum will be paid free of income tax.

    • Are income protection payments tax deductible?

This depends on whether the policy is a personal income protection plan, paid by yourself, or an income protection plan, paid by your employer.

A personal income protection plan will pay out any proceeds free of income tax. Whereas proceeds paid out from group income protection plan will be subject to income tax.
